Fast Track to Cruising® Course  -  Charter-Ready in just 7 Days!

You’ll go from sailing novice to confident cruiser in just 7 action-packed days sailing the BVI. This is our most popular learn to sail and learn to cruise vacation. It starts with Offshore’s 2-day Learn to Sail course, followed by the 5-day Live Aboard Cruising course. The first 2 days, you learn on a lively Colgate 26, gaining knowledge and skills to confidently sail a mid-sized keelboat. Then, you board a 40’ to 51’ yacht for 5 days of liveaboard instruction while experiencing the live-aboard lifestyle. You sail and cruise aboard a Moorings catamaran or monohull, learning all you need to confidently bareboat charter cruise on your own. At course end you will have tested for US Sailing Basic Keelboat, Basic Cruising and Bareboat Cruising Certifications, and earn membership in the Moorings Captain's Rewards Program.

"An absolute top-notch experience! I was able to go from my first step on a sailboat to confidently managing the larger cruising monohull. The perfect balance of a challenging and demanding course and a very supportive learning environment."
Erika Linnander - Chapel Hill, NC

This 5-day adventure in the BVI aboard a 40-51 foot Moorings yacht will teach you everything you need to know for bareboat chartering – including seamless manoeuvres under sail and power, shortening sail, overboard recovery procedures, navigation, proper mooring and anchoring techniques, engine maintenance and a lot more. At course end you test for US Sailing certification in Basic Cruising and Bareboat Cruising Certification, and earn membership in the Moorings Captain’s Reward Program. As a prerequisite, students must have completed Learn to Sail or have equivalent sailing experience.

"Fantastic experience!  I've sailed Hobie Cats and windsurfed my whole life. Our Offshore instructor helped me gain the knowledge and confidence to sail a large catamaran. My wife and I did this together after doing 5 cat charters in the BVIs. My wife feels confident in her sailing skills after just one week. This is the perfect way to learn. We highly recommend this program."

Learn to Sail  - Day Sailing Certification

If you’ve never sailed, this 5-day shore-based learning vacation includes daily classroom and exciting on-water instruction aboard an award-winning Colgate 26, gaining skills and knowledge that take you through the intermediate level. In this stay-ashore course, you spend half a day each day learning and practicing multiple exercises, leaving the other half-day to enjoy the many other activities available in these fabulous islands. With classroom sessions preceding each on-water session, you gain knowledge and skills to successfully and confidently sail a mid-sized sailboat with sails alone. Upon successful completion, you’ll receive US Sailing Basic Keelboat Certification.

Fast Track to Power Cruising

This fast-paced 5-day course is taught aboard a Moorings 37-51 foot power cat, learning the skills to safely and confidently skipper and crew a twin-engine power cat. As you cruise from one anchorage to the next, you’ll learn to manage all the on-board systems, how to steer in wind and wave conditions, anchoring and mooring techniques, docking methods, how to navigate and navigation rules, overboard recovery, basic engine maintenance, use of electronics and more. At course end you test for US Power Boat Certification, ready to head out on your own on a Moorings power cat bareboat charter.

"I have been boating for over 50 years and thought I knew everything I need to know. This course proved me wrong. It was a perfect mix of instruction with time in the evenings to enjoy the beauty and cuisine of the BVI. The course work was challenging, and the instructor did a great job of keeping us on task. We had an exceptional experience and look forward to future courses and events.
